Driver faces charges after running stop sign

The Prince Albert police report an average weekend with 157 calls.

Police said a total of 44 people were taken into custody, 21 of which were for public intoxication.

There were two main calls of interest over the weekend:

MVA at Fifth Avenue and 28th Street East:

On Saturday night, police responded to an accident at Fifth Avenue and 28th Street East. Where a 28-year-old man was drunk, ran a stop sign and then crashed into another vehicle.

Erin Gilbert sent a tip to paNOW.

Gilbert said she spoke to the woman whose car was hit; she said she was on her way to get a coffee after work. She then shared with Gilbert what happened.

“The drunk was driving a grey pickup truck and ran a stop sign on Fifth Avenue East and struck the woman nearly knocking her vehicle into a house on the corner of 28th Street and Fifth Avenue East. The driver and passengers then attempted to flee the scene but were caught and arrested by Prince Albert city police.”

Police said the driver who caused the collision is now facing charges of Impaired Driving and exceeding the acceptable blood alcohol level of .08.

There were no serious injuries reported.

Assault complaint 1700 block of 15 Street West:

On Sunday, at around 3 a.m. police were called to the 1700 block of 15th Street West for an assault complaint.

Officers said a man, 24, and a female, 17, were both assaulted with a weapon.

The man was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The female also sustained minor injuries.

Another man, 24, was arrested in connection with the assaults and is now facing several Criminal Code Charges.
