Volunteers reach out to next generation

Nov 7, 2014 | 5:08 PM

Schools across Prince Albert and area have been receiving a special history lesson this week.

Volunteers from the Army, Navy and Air Force Veterans unit 222 Prince Albert and Paddockwood Legion have visited over a dozen schools carrying the flags of their Provincial Union Jack, United Nations and Canadian Flag.

They’ve been working long days, an average of nine hours per day.

It is extra important this year to create awareness among the next generation.

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the Great War; the 75th anniversary of World War II and the 70th anniversary of D-Day.

The Remembrance Day ceremony in Prince Albert will once again be held at the armory. The actual ceremony begins at 11 a.m. but people are encouraged to get there early to get a good seat.

In Shellbrook the Legion will hold their ceremony at 10:30 a.m. at the local theater.

Melfort’s ceremony will take place at the high school.
