Memorial Cross recipients to get new Sask. licence plates

Nov 6, 2014 | 10:36 AM

SGI has issued a commemorative licence plate for Memorial Cross recipients, giving families of fallen soldiers a new way to honour their loved ones.

“Remembering our veterans for one day is good, but to be able to acknowledge them and their sacrifice all year round – that’s what this licence plate does,” said Minister responsible for SGI Don McMorris.

Several families were present at the unveiling Wednesday including Ben Walsh, father of Master Corporal Jeffrey Scott Walsh.

Ben Walsh received the first plate.

“I’ll really cherish it,” said Walsh. “It’s wonderful. It will be displayed with honour on our vehicle.”

The plate is white with green lettering and it has a graphic of the Memorial Cross on it. The cross has been awarded to families of fallen soldiers since 1919.

Recipients can request a plate at no charge from SGI.
