VIDEO: Haunted House raises funds to help youth

Clowns, ghosts, and scary masks are sure to scare in this year’s Sundance Haven and Anavets of Prince Albert Halloween haunted house.

Carrie McCann, is a program co-ordinator for the NNC Peer Home, and helps with Sundance Haven, both of which are homes for youth. McCann said every year people are very scared of the house.

“We’ve seen grown men cry,” she said. “They get scared, ya that was funny.”

Around 45 people helped with the huge Halloween project. McCann said the haunted house has been running for five years now, but before that she never saw the inside of a haunted house.

“I had never been to a haunted house in my life until I started doing this five years ago, ever, and I love it,” she said.

McCann said the haunted house is a successful way to raise funds for both youth homes. She said usually the amount raised is enough to take the youth on a summer trip.

“Last year, we took our girls on a 10-day trip to Calgary,” she said. “It was all paid for mostly from this and we do a couple yard sales every year to fundraise.”

Not only does it raise money, McCain said setting up the house is something organizers and volunteers love doing.

“We talk about this all year round, we plan, we get new ideas, we start getting new props,” she said. “It’s fun, we get to meet a lot of people, the girls have fun, everybody gets involved it just a fun week.”

The haunted house may have been around for five years but McCann said no one will know what’s coming.

“There’s a few new twists and turns and a couple rooms that are new and people will be surprised it’s not the same old thing,” she said.

The house will be open on Monday and Tuesday from 4-10 p.m., Wednesday (kid-friendly night) 4-9 p.m., Thursday family night 4-11 p.m., and Halloween Friday night 4-12 p.m.

Each night entry to the house costs $3 a person but on family night it is $5 a family.
