Precautionary Drinking Water Advisory for northern communities

Oct 21, 2014 | 6:33 PM

Three communities are under a Precautionary Drinking Water Advisory (PDAW).

The Town of La Ronge said its issue is due to depressurization. Air Ronge said it and the Lac La Ronge Indian Band are also under a PDAW after a power outage.

Residents are advised to boil any water used for drinking purposes for at least one minute prior to use.

According to the Water Security Agency, this advisory also applies to water that enters a person’s in any form.  Ice cubes should be made from previously boiled water. Persons providing food or drink to the public should be particularly careful to boil all water which is consumed by the public.

The agency also said dishes and utensils should be soaked in a bleach solution of one ounce bleach per gallon of water for two minutes after being washed.  This is to ensure any bacteria, which could be present, is killed.  Otherwise the water used for washing dishes should be boiled before use.

It advises that no one mix soap and bleach.

The PDAW will remain in effect until further notice.
