Mintos outscored 14-2 in pair of weekend losses

Oct 19, 2014 | 3:50 PM

The Prince Albert Mintos took a few to the chin this weekend against two in form opponents.

After Saturday’s 8-2 defeat to the undefeated Notre Dame Hounds, the Mintos were overpowered by the Regina Pat Canadians 6-0 Sunday at the Art Hauser Centre.

Already through nine games, the Pat Canadians have 44 goals on the season to lead the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League by a ton.

After the Hounds beat the Mintos Saturday, they improved their record to 4-0 and outscored their opponents 22-2 on the year.

Pat C’s 5 Mintos 0

Sunday was the second time the Mintos were shutout this season, after a 5-0 defeat on the road against the Tisdale Trojans on Tuesday.

Pat Canadians defenceman Blake Dempsey scored the first goal of the game in the opening frame and led the Pat C’s with a three-point performance.

Arthur Miller, Mark Edmands scored in the second, while Owen Sillinger, Conner Chaulk and Bryce Platt also added goals in the third.

The Pat C’s outshot the Mintos 30-18 in the game. Curtis Meger, a player on the Prince Albert Raiders protected list, made asdljfslk saves for the shutout. Mintos starter Derrick Hucul was much busier, stopping 24 of 30 shots.

Injuries building

Two key forwards have been forced out of the Mintos lineup as 17-year-old Zac Paziuk (shoulder) and first liner Brett Harasymuk (leg).

Paziuk left Saturday’s game with an apparent shoulder injury and had to be assisted off the ice by trainer Quentin Halcro and captain Brody Reimer. He’ll need to be assured further before the team will know of his availability in the future.

Harasymuk’s last game was Thursday in a 6-1 win over the Beardy’s Blackhawks where he scored two goals in the first period. Late in the game, Harasymuk absorbed a knee-on-knee hit and missed both weekend games as a result.

Looking ahead

They’ll travel to the Battlefords to take on the Stars on Thursday, then enjoy a three-game homestand hosting the Yorkton Maulers Oct. 25, the Swift Current Legionnaires Oct. 26 and the Notre Dame Argos Nov. 2.
