Pats post 5-2 win over the Raiders
It was not a good effort.
That was the theme of the 900 CKBI post game broadcast interview with Raiders Associate coach Dave Manson following Saturday night’s 5-2 loss to the Pats in Regina.
Manson felt the team wasn’t nearly physical enough saying they needed more hits like Jayden Hart’s open ice destruction of Pat winger Pavel Padakin in the second period.
The power play also struggled despite counting both Raider goals as Jordan Tkatch converted his own rebound in the first period to tie the game 1-1 and Brendan Guhle’s low blast from the point to reduce Regina’s lead to 4-2 at 9:07 of the third period. The Raiders would end the night 2-8 with the man advantage as the Pat penalty kill did a good job against PA’s set plays. Manson said they also needed to shoot more using to Guhle’s goal as an example.
The Pat power play was 2-7 with Braden Christoffer deflecting home a first period point shot to open the scoring and sweeping in a cross seam pass for the lone goal of the second period to give Regina a 3-1 lead after 40-minutes.
Patrick D’Amico, Austin Wagner and Dryden Hunt into an empty net rounded out the Regina scoring while Craig Leverton who scored both Raider goals and in the shootout during Friday’s 3-2 win over Moose Jaw, assisted on both Raider goals against the Pats.
Nick McBride made several stellar saves to keep the Raiders close, including a sensational pad stop on Connor Gay who broke in 2-on-0 with Sam Steel during a second period power play for the Raiders. McBride would end the night with 30 saves.
The loss drops the Raiders to 3-2 on the season heading into Tuesday’s home game against the Tri City Americans, their first visit to the Art Hauser Centre in two seasons.
