It’s an event to celebrate all cultures in Prince Albert.

The 39th annual Tapestrama brought all ages and races together at Prince Albert’s E.A Rawlinson Centre.

Alice Zhang is a board member with the Prince Albert Multicultural Council. Zhang said people who have different cultural backgrounds contribute to the growth of the province.

Zhang brought her five-year-old Claire Xue to the event. According to Zhang, Claire was born in Canada but she wants her daughter to learn about her Chinese background as well as other cultures.

“She was born here but it is nice for her to understand that Canada is made up of people from different cultural backgrounds,” said Zhang.

Zhang believes all cultures can live together in harmony and respect. Five-year-old Xue agreed with her mom, and enjoys learning about other people.

“Because that is all about friendship,” said Xue.

Irene Malec has attended the event several times and said this event is important because within the city there are a lot of multi-culture people.

Brady Nowoselsky asked his mom to take him to Tapestrama. His mother, Jennifer Nowoselsky said he is very interested in trying different foods as well as learning about different cultures and their flags.

“It’s neat learning about them,” Brady Nowoselsky.

For Sean Bader, Tapestrama has been part of his family since he was young. This is why he brought his children to the cultural celebration.

“My parents used to be part of the Scandinavian club and they used to come to Tapestrama every year and dance,” said Bader.

Bader said he wants his seven and four-year-old to learn about different cultures and about Canada’s Melting pot.

“People from all over the world have made their life here,” said Bader. “It’s important to respect the differences between cultures and where people come from. ”

The event continues today at the E.A. Rawlison Centre for the Arts from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The finale of Tapestrama starts at 6 p.m. tonight and will include The Goat Jazzy folk singers and the Celtic Circling Over Shannon group.
