Improv troupe hopes for laughs in Prince Albert

Sep 27, 2014 | 12:00 PM

Off the Cuff Improv Troupe will be showcasing their talents at their first public show on Saturday night at Dr. Java’s in Prince Albert.

The improv troupe started a couple of years ago and is a product of Boucher Entertainment. Adreanna Boucher, a founder of the company, said she wanted to take the company to a different level by including improv. By holding public shows, she hopes the troupe will gain more exposure.

Generally there are six to eight actors in the improv troupe who take turns performing in different shows. Actors Ryan Hughes, Colleen Clark, and Nick Pawlak, all from Prince Albert, will be performing tonight along with Boucher.

“They love it and they want to do more … they love the opportunity to do it and get to act more. I wish I could involve all my actors in every show but there’s kind of a limit on how many works really well together,” she said.

Boucher said they wanted to find a fun name for the troupe and settled with Off the Cuff because that’s exactly what improv is.

”You create scenes on the fly, there’s no script, we take suggestions from the audience and we form scenes based on them usually in the form of games,” she said.

Boucher said that she enjoys improv because it keeps her sharp and working on different skills.

“I just like acting … I love the challenge of improv. You get really nervous when you get up there because sometimes scenes can flop but most of the time they’re really great but you have to work really hard,” she said.

Boucher said she hopes the audience will react in a positive way tonight and hopes to make this into a regular thing in Prince Albert.

“I hope they’ll laugh a lot. I hope they’ll not be shy and give us lots of suggestions. I just hope they get in on the fun and want to see more,” she said.

She added that Dr. Java’s is a great venue for their first public show because at a capacity of 50, it is small enough for the audience to participate.

“Everyone will be able to see and hear, everyone can get involved and it’ll just be a really fun time,” she said.

The Off the Cuff improv show starts at 7 p.m. and costs $15. Boucher encourages people to come early to put lines in the suggestion box.

“It’ll be fun … get ready to enjoy the show,” she said.

As part of Boucher Entertainment, Roger Boucher’s magic show will be held at the Legion on Sunday. Tickets are $10 in advance or $12.50 at the door.
