Nuclear waste rally continues at Regina’s Legislature

A couple hundred people joined protestors at Regina’s Legislature to ask the Saskatchewan government to ban radioactive waste.

The protesters walked more than 800 kilometres over the last 18 days from Pinehouse, and were joined by others heading to Regina in support.

The Nuclear Waste Management Organization is trying to find a site to store nuclear waste underground for the whole country.

In Saskatchewan, Pinehouse Lake, English River and Creighton are all being considered.

Retired professor of environmental studies Jim Harding joined the walk to Regina.

He says it's a political policy decision and each party should lay out their stance before the fall election so people can vote accordingly.

“Ontario can’t ban nuclear waste because they produce it,” said Harding.

“But we can because we don’t produce it.”
