Cause of semi-truck fire unknown

The cause of a spectacular semi-truck fire near Rosthern remains under investigation.

The vehicle caught fire on the southbound side of Highway 11 at about 3:40 p.m. Monday and forced a portion of the highway to be closed for a period of time.

“It was a very hot fire we were dealing with fuel and lot of rubber burning,” said Trevor Zacharias, deputy fire chief with the Rosthern Fire Department.

The fire was so intense two members of my crew required medical attention, he said.

“It was more heat related injuries, exertion and that type of thing, very minor,” Zacharias said.

The semi driver was treated for injuries by EMS on scene.

Fire crews remained on scene until after 9 p.m. dealing with flare ups and helping to load the charred semi onto a flatbed truck.
