Regina police look to Karen community for help in solving triple murder

Aug 5, 2011 | 4:08 PM

Regina police are hoping to open up new lines of investigation in a year-old triple murder.

Police are increasing their focus on the Karen-speaking community, which the three victims were members of.

Police are sending out a message; asking people who speak Karen to “do the right thing” and come forward.

An audio message recorded in the Karen language is being posted on social media sites, as well as on a Karen webpage.

There's concern other refugees might be afraid to give police information.

Regina police chief Troy Hagen concedes that not much information has been released.

“Releasing the information pertaining to the manner of death, or cause of death, or any weapons — in our opinion — would compromise the investigation. Certainly that’s the last thing that we would want to do,” said Hagen.

He said an RCMP member of Karen descent has been heavily involved in the investigation and is the one who recorded the audio message.
