High hopes for new fair attractions

Aug 3, 2011 | 6:39 AM

Imagine hanging in suspense 105 feet above the ground, not knowing when the sudden free-fall drop will be.

The Super Shot is one of the new attractions at the Prince Albert Exhibition ‘s midway this year.

“I didn’t know what to expect. It was scary,” said one smiling girl, after climbing down from the cable driven gondola car where her and her friends had been screaming moments before.

“It’s brand new this year. We have a similar one on another until but this particular one that they’ve borrowed a couple of times but this particular one is brand new,” said Darron Drowing, Super Shot operator.

Nicholas Prediger described the new ride to be like falling from orbit. Coincidentally another new ride is the Alien Abduction.

It sits at the other end of the Midway attracting lineups. The new Alien Abduction spins around making it users stick to the sides with centrifugal force.

Besides the new rides there is something else that’s generated a lot of buzz.

“I have not been able to find the spudnut booth. And every year you know where it is just from the lineup of people that are at it. Out of all the things I miss about the fair that is the biggest one,” said one yearly patron.

The summer fair still has plenty of other of the staple foods people have come to expect each year including Elephant Ears and a new Mini Doughnut booth.

“An Elephant Ear is a deep fried pastry that comes with cinnamon sugar or icing sugar,” said Roger Brenten, concession operator.

He said the first day started out slow but things really picked up as the day went on.

The Midway runs until 8:00 p.m. Saturday.
