Sexual assault suspect pretends to be officer

More information has been released about two sexual assaults that happened in Prince Albert on the weekend.

A Warman man is facing numerous charges after the assaults took place in the city, Sunday morning.

The victims were both teenagers, 15 and 17 years old, but were unknown to each other.

Police were alerted to the first incident at about 1:15 a.m. after the 15-year-old fled the assault and was taken to police with the help of a passing driver.

Officers were then called to the 800 block of Sixth Avenue East for a similar call.

A 28 year-old Warman man was arrested a few blocks away in the 1400 block of 10th Street East.

He is charged with two counts of sexual assault and two counts of uttering threats.

The Warman man is facing an additional charge of personating a police officer as he allegedly identified himself as a police officer to the two teenaged victims, said Sgt. Kelly McLean with the Prince Albert Police Service.

“The first thing that you should do is if someone comes up to you in plain clothes and identifies himself as a police officer, ask for identification. Look for a badge,” McLean said.

“Our policy at the police service is that badges have to be prominently displayed when in contact with a member of the public. So if you have a member of the Prince Albert Police Service that makes contact with the public, whether it be for information or whatever the case may be identification must be displayed.”

Officers were able to locate the suspect in these assaults with the help of witnesses, McLean said.
