City studying traffic trends

With roads becoming more and more congested, the City of Prince Albert is looking to find improvements.

Currently, the city is conducting a traffic study along its busiest roads. Counters can be seen periodically along Central Avenue, 15th Street East and Second Avenue West.

City operations manager Alain Trudel said the city is looking to create better understand how lights should be timed and where, if at all, new ones should be installed.

“It’s for our own internal use to determine how traffic is flowing and what can me do to for future accommodations,” he said.

“It’s also useful if future businesses want to how much traffic would be going by their door—there’s probably a lot of uses.”

Alain said the most important area they would be looking at would be Sixth Avenue and 15th Street East.

“These are our major arterials,” he said. “And with the major development of Cornerstone, you can imagine that there’s a huge increase in traffic to that area.”

“And there’s a bunch of work we need to do to address the traffic at that very congested intersection.”
Alain said after the data is collected an interpreted recommendations can be made to council.
