Cayman Island man found not-guilty of murdering P.A. man

The man charged with killing a Prince Albert man in the Cayman Islands more than three years ago has been acquitted for a second time.

On Tuesday, the Grand Court found Josue Carillo-Perez, 31, not guilty of murdering Martin Gareau, said a report from the cayCompass website.

The father of three was found dead at his Beach Bay home in May 2008. Work colleagues discovered his body after he failed to show up for work.

According to the autopsy report, he died of multiple injuries to the head and back caused by blunt and sharp objects.

This was the second trial for Perez, who was found not guilty after a trial in October 2009. The crown successfully appealed that verdict and the Cayman Court of Appeal ordered a new trial.

The report said the crown’s case was based on fingerprint and footprint evidence that placed Perez at Gareau’s home. The defense argued the prints could have been left there during an earlier visit.

Perez, who has maintained his innocence throughout, is the only man ever charged with his death.
