Craven organizers look ahead to “Coming Home” in 2012

Jul 18, 2011 | 7:39 AM

From a festival site once under three feet of water, to a scorching weekend in the sun, the 2011 version of Craven Country Jamboree is over and already organizers are looking ahead.

“Our slogan for next year is, 'We're coming home,'” said festival spokesperson Kim Blevins. That's because organizers are bringing festival goers back to the original camping area.

“We have some work to do this fall. We're going to put in some lagoon systems and we're going to make sure this camping area becomes one of the most beautiful places in Saskatchewan,” Blevins said.

The annual jamboree is one of province's biggest events and has been for more than two decades.

Even though the campground site was 10 kilometres away and people had to be bussed back and forth, as people filed out of the grandstands after Rascal Flatts at 10:30 p.m., they were smiling.

Blevins says the bus shuttle to and from the campground went okay — maintaining that leaving any kind of concert is always a bit of a process and wait, whether it's in Regina or Saskatoon.

“When we had our large line-ups, it was right after the last act on main stage when everybody decided to go back up to the campground. So, we did the best that we could. You know, even in the line-ups everyone was pretty gracious and understanding,” she said.

But because the campsite will be back on site next year, she's focusing on that and the headliners instead. For the first time ever, all three headliners were announced on Sunday night.

Tickets are already on sale to see Blake Shelton, Alan Jackson and Brad Paisley play the 2012 jamboree on the Friday, Saturday and Sunday night, respectively. The Band Perry will open for Paisley on the Sunday.
