Jessy’s Garden Established to Honor Memory of Daughter

Jul 14, 2011 | 11:06 AM

We were extremely blessed with the purchase of our property. It has provided for many needs; not only ours but also for others.

Jessy loved to visit, enjoying the peace and tranquility that it offers stating, “you could really become addicted to this place.” Our home is not fancy and we are not rich but our souls are. The Lord truly has his hands in what happens here: our past, present and future.

Jessy-Leigh is our youngest daughter who truly enjoyed helping others less fortunate. These were a few of her accomplishments in life; organizing and delivering coats and blankets to the homeless on the streets of Toronto on Christmas Eve, starting food drives in her city at the age of 15, buying a hot coffee and muffin for someone down on their luck, rescuing every lost bird and animal she could find and taking just that extra moment for every child.

Jessy used her compassion and turned it into something larger than she ever thought. She would do anything to make a difference in someone else's life.

Jessy lost her battle with life on July 11, 2008. She was 21. Here last gifts in life were: heart and lungs to a lady in Oshawa, ON; eyes for others to see and skin tissue for burn victims. There is also a yearly scholarship from Boston Pizza in Gravenhurst, ON in her name.

Jessy was a feisty spirited and compassionate woman which made her very unique.

With her passing, Mel envisioned constructing a creek and waterfall in our front yard – a place where we could go to remember her. After removing the bush and collecting rocks from our trips which began in Ontario and continued to B.C., Jessy's Garden began. Over the years, Jessy's Garden continues to grow. Special friends and family have brought rocks and angels to decorate her flower garden, messages are displayed just for her.

We invite family and friends to help with the seeding of her vegetable garden and with harvest. Many have come to visit, reflecting on the beauty of nature. Some feel the need to sing or pray.

I was a lost and broken mother with more determination than I thought possible. Mel is my rock – and we work side by side to fulfill this need we both have. We so lovingly remember Jessy and her spirit with each and every row we plant, keeping her alive within us.

We believe our commitment to the gardens will bless many more.

May you enjoy the beauty that we see daily and feel the joy of life.

God Bless.
