Western agriculture ministers support ending wheat board

Western agriculture ministers are supporting the federal government's move to do away with the wheat board's monopoly.

Federal and provincial agriculture ministers have been meeting in New Brunswick this week.

The agriculture ministers for Saskatchewan, B.C. and Alberta released a statement saying they agree with the decision to give farmers the choice to market their own grain.

The Wheat Board is fighting the move. Manitoba has also come out against the plan.

The federal government said it has the legal ability to strip the wheat board of its monopoly, effective August 2012.
