Local snowmobile club helps grieving family

A young girl who lost her father is being taken care of.

A trust fund has been set up for Lucy Mantyka. She is the 15-month-old daughter of Danny Mantyka.

The 21-year-old was among five people killed last week in a plane crash near Southend, including his fiancée’s 15-year-old cousin Max Clunie.

The P.A. Snowrunners are behind the trust fund.

“Danny's father is a longtime member and friend of our snowmobile club. We just felt it was something we could do other than just sending flowers and the concern is there for Danny's daughter,” said Robert Venn.

“Everybody is just pretty upset about the whole thing. It's such a tragedy for such a young person, and with all the other families that are involved,” said Venn.

Along with Lucy, Mantyka left behind his fiancée Sara Autet, his parents Lawrence Mantyka and Heather Warnock and siblings Michael, Lindsey and Jackson.

An email sent to paNOW described Mantyka as being very close with Clunie. The pair had “a deep bond in their love of nature, including fishing and hunting.” It said the two will be missed “for how they lived and the joy their brought to family and friends.”

Danny Mantyka's funeral is being held Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church in Prince Albert.

At the request of family, donations can be dropped off at the TBS Collision or Gray's Funneral Chapel. The Bank of Montreal is also accepting contributions in the name of Lucy Mantyka.
