Cumberland House still under state of emergency

Jul 5, 2011 | 11:32 AM

It could take another week before a state of emergency ends for the northern Saskatchewan community of Cumberland House as the nearby Cumberland Lake continues to be dangerously high.

Mayor Andy McKay says crews continue to build new berms along a three-kilometre stretch of road from the town's airport down in to the community.

However, he says they also have to keep an eye on berms that were built nearly 22 days ago.

“Just yesterday they found a low-lying area on one of the berms surrounding the island,” McKay explained.
