Last day to vote for Sheepdogs in Rolling Stone contest

Jul 1, 2011 | 9:19 AM

On the last day to vote them onto the cover of Rolling Stone magazine, the Sheepdogs come home to Saskatoon to play a sold out Friday night show at the SaskTel Jazz Festival.

Bass player, Ryan Gullen is looking forward to taking the mainstage at the festival on Canada Day.

“I’m really excited to come home. (The show) sold out. We sold 3,000 tickets for the show so we’re pretty pumped about that,” said Gullen.

The Sheepdogs have toured across North America and played at major festivals like POP Montreal and NXNE.

The band has made appearances at Canadian Music Week and the Western Canadian Music Awards where the group’s 2008 effort “Big Stand” was nominated for Independent Album of the Year.

They have released two other full-length albums including their 2007 debut “Trying to Grow” and 2010’s “Learn & Burn.”

If the Sheepdogs win the Rolling Stone contest they will appear on the cover of the August 19 issue and become the first unsigned act ever to do so. Although the boys would not be unsigned for long as the winner also lands a recording deal with Atlantic Records.

Fans of the Sheepdogs are encouraged to head over to the Rolling Stone website to cast their vote, or better yet, just click the voting widget to the left. But be sure to do so before the end of the day Friday.

The winner will be announced on the August 1, episode of Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.

Guitarist Leot Hansen grew up in Prince Albert.
