SaskPower restoring power after storm

Jun 30, 2011 | 2:11 PM

SaskPower is working to restore electricity to people in the Kendall and Montmartre area after an overnight storm knocked out a transmission line between the communities.

SaskPower is also warning people to stay away from the downed equipment. Some are in the area taking pictures.

That area is just one of a number in Saskatchewan who lost power due to the storm on Thursday night.

It didn’t seem like a regular thunderstorm Carrie Kolylak, who lives in Montmartre.

“The storm hit last night. The power went out about 10:30 p.m. and then when I was watching the windows, there was a lot of lightening and it was almost like hurricane conditions.”

She said there were trees lying on the ground that had been ripped out by their roots.

“I’ve never seen anything like that before. I’ve seen them snap before but never taken out by the roots.”

Kolylak says the damage extends all along Highway 48 between Montmartre and Regina.

As of Thursday at noon, her power was still out and she had resigned to it staying that way for a while.
