Second Avenue construction to wrap up before weekend

Construction on the city’s busiest roadway continues, but the city expects it be completed before one of the busiest weekends of the year.

Crews are working to recap the battered Second Avenue West. Last week traffic was confined to the west side of the road and Monday morning, traffic was diverted to the east.

City director of public works Colin Innes said the road is expected to be completed soon.

“We’re hoping, unless the weather totally changes from what we’re seeing, that we should be finished up by Wednesday,” he said.

“What our aim is to be totally out of the way for the long weekend and have we’ve been doing, even with the rain, we’ve been performing quite well.”

The paving project is taking place between 21st and 28th Street West. Now that construction has switched sides, those streets west of Second Avenue are closed to Third Avenue West, except to local traffic.
