Saskatchewan Day of Caring to raise money for flood victims

Jun 27, 2011 | 11:23 AM

It's a chance to lend a hand to Saskatchewan people devastated by massive flooding in the southeast part of the province.

“The greatest concern is being able to get people back into their homes or a home or some place to live once the waters recede,” said Kim McLean with the Saskatchewan Red Cross.

On Wednesday, News Talk Radio will host a Saskatchewan Day of Caring, a 12-hour radiothon to raise money for flood victims.

McLean says the Red Cross has been responding to flooding in more than 15 communities since April 1.

“Red Cross has provided things such as clean-up kits, but certainly there are going to be other needs like household goods, cleaning properly — if they've had mould in their home. In some cases some people may even need to look at rebuilding,” she said.

The radiothon will run from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. and will be hosted by News Talk Radio's Richard Brown and John Gormley.
