The low qualifer and the defending champion are still in the hunt for the Men's Lobstick golf title in Waskesiu.

Open champion and low qualifier, Andrew Zaba will meet Tory Coughlin in the quarterfinals Friday, while Martin Ring takes on Mark Robinson.  Zaba beat Fred Smith in a 16-hole match.

Ring defeated Ashley Ziegeman in a 17-hole match that way anything but easy, said Ring

“I knew it was going to be a tough one Ashley and myself are club mates I see him a lot through casual rounds and obviously through tournament play and I just know he is a grinder, similar to myself I guess, so we had a very good match, I was able to close him out on the 17th hole but it wasn't for a lack of effort from Ashley that's for sure he just doesn't give up.”

Robinson made things tough on himself but pulled out his match over Trevor Bloom.'

“I had a chance at a two-footer close close him out on the 4th last home but I missed and made three bogeys in a row but ended up with a birdie on the extra hole.”

Ring ane Robinson will meet Friday morning in the quarterfinals so there will be little room for mistakes, said Robinson.

“I will have to play as well as I can play.  We played a couple of practice rounds with him on Saturday and Sunday before the tournament.  He's extremely steady, he's a very good putter and he's got awesome experience so I will have to beat at my best to compete with him.”

The winners will go directly into the semi finals Friday afternoon so advancing to the final on Saturday will be a test of mental toughness, said Ring.

“It's a marathon you have to take one hole at a time.  It is a long day, you have to take it one hole at a time and not get ahead of yourself and definately keep the fluids up, that's the biggest thing, you need to drink a lot of water and keep within yourself.”

Another quarterfinal matches have Todd Heaviesides taking on Cadmus Delorme.  Heaviesides defeated Tyler Zaba while Delorme won over Jim Gawluk who had to withdraw after 7 holes with a back injury.

Meanwnile it's Scott Pinder vs Dallas Mengel to round out the round of eight.  Pinder took out Richard Heidt while Mengel outlasted Jeff McKeand.
