Craven will go on despite flooding

Jun 8, 2011 | 6:50 AM

Five weeks from Thursday, Craven will grow from a population of about 300 people to more than 23,000 in just a few days. And, despite rain and a lot of water remaining on the site, organizers of the Craven Country Jamboree say the show will go on.

“Right now our main street, main stage area and gold camping are dry and having been for a couple of weeks,” said Kim Blevins, spokesperson for the jamboree.

But the rest of the campground is another story and can probably be described as a bit of a lake. Blevins says crews are working diligently to get that land dry.

“We're going to raise the level of the land right around the creek so that we can get the water off the site for this year and protect our self for future years,” she said.

But even if things don't get completely dried out, Blevins says Saskatchewan people aren't afraid of a little mud.

“Saskatchewan people are hearty. They're taking a look out there and they're thinking, 'Well jeez, I just need to bring my rubber boots,'” she said.

Tickets are still available for $159. When those sell out, Blevins says the last chunk of tickets will be sold for $179.

A news conference is scheduled for later in June where Blevins will provide more detailed information on the Craven camp site plans and with back-up contingency plans, if necessary.

The Craven Country Jamboree runs from July 14 to 17.
