Mind the Gap show at the Mann Art Gallery
Mind the Gap! celebrates, with resounding exuberance, the wealth of talent amongst the diverse population of emerging artists in our province. The title refers to the oft-misguided term that Saskatchewan is plied with — that is, being the gap in Canada's cultural landscape. We mind, actually.
Mind the Gap! includes 30 artists from 14 cities and towns across Saskatchewan, including North Battleford, Canora, La Ronge, Lloydminster, Moose Jaw, North Portal, Pense, Prince Albert, Regina, Regina Beach, Rockglen, Saskatoon, Shellbrook and Swift Current.
This large-scale exhibition provides a visual, cerebral and geographic map of new developments in contemporary arts practice in Saskatchewan. The co-curators present a fresh perspective on emerging art in the province, providing an opportunity to follow and predict new developments in the visual arts. Comprehensive and ambitious in scope, the exhibit aims to provide an insight into the trends, innovations, energy and interests evident in the artwork by these young artists. A multitude of media is represented, ranging from photography, drawing, painting, sculpture, video, site-specific installation, performance, cartoons, and web-based projects.
