Arrests made at wildfire evacuation centre in Saskatoon
Saskatoon police made numerous arrests Thursday night at the Henk Ruys Soccer Centre which has been acting as a evacuation centre for residents of Wollaston Lake and Hatchet Lake First Nation.
Arrests were made in connection with reports of fighting, intoxication and public disturbances.
Saskatchewan’s Emergency Social Services Manager Norm Vetter, says this behavior is not unusual in situations like this.
“For the people coming out of the community this is not an easy process for them. Many of them have been sitting in airports and hangers for sometimes up to 10 or 12 hours before they got transferred out. Everyone is tired and it is a strain on local people,” said Vetter.
