Wollaston Lake evacuates as forest fire approaches

The Hamlet of Wollaston Lake and Hatchet Lake First Nation were evacuated as a forest fire inched toward those communities Tuesday night.

On Monday, the fire was estimated to be about 10 hectares but has since grown 10 times that size.

As of Tuesday evening, the fire was about two kilometres away from the community.

Saskatchewan Environment has been working to divert the fire.

RCMP and Wollaston Lake rangers are assisting with the evacuation.

Wollaston Lake is a fly-in community, located approximately 600 kilometres northeast of Prince Albert.
