Former Roughrider’s sentencing moved to June 7

A former Roughrider will have to wait until next week to find out if he's going to jail.

Kennedy Nkeyasen pleaded guilty to breaking down the door of his ex-girlfriends apartment and assaulting her new boyfriend almost two years ago.

He was expected to be sentenced on Monday but the judge needs more time.

Nkeyasen gave a lengthy statement to the court saying he regretted what happened. He said knows he crossed the line. He told the court he didn't want to be considered above the law but asked the judge to give him a sentence suitable to a hard working man who has worked with children in his community.

The Crown is looking for prison time, somewhere around four years. The defense has asked for a suspended sentence, citing Nkeyasen's clean criminal record and the fact that he plead guilty.
