Fundraiser for chance to play on Team Canada

May 29, 2011 | 3:36 PM

Kathleen Paul is trying to make a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for her son become a reality.

Dallas Paul, 14, has been invited to play for the Team Canada Polar Bears hockey team in an international Bantam Tier 2 tournament in Prague, Czech Republic.

“When you hear Team Canada, it’s a big deal to every little kid,” said Kathleen, who is from the One Arrow First Nation.

However, it’ll cost $4,500 to send him, and Kathleen said it’s too expensive.

“We have 11 kids, we’re on welfare, so we really can’t afford it,” said Kathleen.

To raise the money, a steak night fundraiser will be held at Rockcees in Prince Albert at 6 p.m. on May 31.

Kathleen said if she isn’t able to raise the money to send Dallas, it would be heartbreaking to not only him, but her as well.

“I’d be heartbroken, because then, what would that do to him?” said Kathleen.

“I would probably feel, if not as bad as him, worse, because I would feel like I’ve failed to try and get him there.”

Tickets are $20, and there will also be a silent auction, a 50-50 draw and door prizes.
