Resource Directory Development Coordinator Needed for SK Aboriginal Literacy Network

The Saskatchewan Aboriginal Literacy Network Inc., with partial funding from Service Canada, is seeking a Resource Directory Development Coordinator for a 12 week summer term position. The successful applicant will update and develop the Saskatchewan Aboriginal Literacy Resource Directory. Initially published in 2003, this document has been a valuable tool to inform educators, leaders, and community members of the literacy programs and services available to First Nations & Métis people in Saskatchewan.

 

Eligibility Criteria:

§ be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment;

§ have been registered as full-time students in the previous academic year and intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year;

§ be Canadian citizens, permanent residents or persons to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act6; and

§ be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.

Expectations:

Working with the Project Management Team, the Resource Directory Development Officer will:

Research current literacy programs and services in Saskatchewan that serve Aboriginal people.
Organize the SALN Resource Collection.
Research and develop a format to include the Aboriginal Literacy Resource Collection in the resource directory.
Research current funding opportunities for Aboriginal people in the literacy sector to include in the directory.
Write, print, and distribute the updated Aboriginal Literacy Resource Directory.
Prepare reports and documents as requested by the SALN and funding agencies.

Qualifications:

Education and/or experience in library work and/or publishing.
Strong background with desktop publishing.
Knowledge of Aboriginal literacy, adult education, and community development resources, curriculums, and literature.
Familiarity with literacy programs throughout Saskatchewan
Experience with research and collection of data.
Awareness of First Nations & Métis cultures and languages
Strong oral and written communication skills.

Salary:

Remuneration is commensurate with experience.
