Hundreds gather for Boogaard funeral

Hundreds gathered on Saturday morning at the RCMP Depot in Regina for the funeral of Saskatchewan born NHLer Derek Boogaard.

Former Minnesota Wild GM, Doug Risebrough, remembered Boogaard as a “gentle giant”, who was feared on the ice, but loved off of it.

“Derek had a way of attracting people; he had a way of comforting people.” Risebrough said. “On the ice, players were trying to get away from him. Off the ice, people were trying to be around him.”

Former Minnesota Wild teammate, Brent Burns, also spoke at the service.
