Case adjourned involving officers charged with assault

Two police officers charged with assault have had their cases adjourned to June 1.

George Neufeld and Michael Ozar with the Prince Albert Police Service have been charged in or two separate incidents.

The first incident occurred on Oct. 3, 2010. An altercation occurred with a female suspect, and physical force was used as a result. A public complaint was filed with the Public Complaints Commission.

The other member was charged for an incident on Dec. 31, 2010, where physical force was used during the arrest of a male suspect. It came to the service’s attention through an internal review, and the case was sent to the Public Complaints Commission for investigation.

The Prince Albert Police Service charged both members with assault, following recommendation by the Ministry of Justice.

The officers have been removed from active service with pay.

Neither officer was at their appearance in provincial court today as they were not required to by the legal process.
