Tax bylaw passed

After months of debate, Prince Albert city council has passed its municipal tax rate and notices are expected to go out by the end of the week.

City council held a special meeting to approve the third reading of the municipal tax bylaw.

The bylaw and the increase were debated since budget talks began in late 2010.

An increase in the mill rate of 3.25 per cent was approved, along with a minimum tax of $60 per household and minimum tax for businesses ranging from $300 to $3,000 depending on the value of the business’ property.

As well, the city agreed it would tax vacant land.

With the passing of the bylaw, the city is able to begin the tax collection progress. Tax notices are set to be mailed out starting at the end of the week.
