The forecast is calling for sunshine this week, and that's exactly what farmers need to get their spring seeding underway.
“We've got lots of guys wanting to go but we've got zero per cent in the ground far as I know. A couple guys (are) able to harrow, but that's been about it so far,” said Ron Warner, the local manager for the Prince Albert office of Crop Production Services.
Warner said that should change if there are some dry conditions this week.
Tex Prete, CEO of Farmworld, said there is very little to report in the Melfort and Kinistino areas, but farmers remain optimistic.
“They've got to take the weather the way it comes and most of the guys are used to dealing with it. They'll be ready when the weather is ready,” said Prete.
Last year the RM of Tisdale was flooded with bad news. Farmers in that area were at the mercy of Mother Nature. So far this spring, there has not been much to get excited about.
“In the north half of the RM they had some 50 some culverts that they fixed. That was up until last week, and some of them were redoing them again,” said Reeve Bob Jackson.
Jackson said there has been a little seeding getting done near Tisdale, but otherwise it has been too wet.
