Fire destroys Beauval arena

Apr 28, 2011 | 11:43 AM

There is very little remaining of Beauval's arena after a fire, Wednesday evening, just the steel structure.

The fire started at about 5:30 p.m. in the village about 300 kilometres northwest of Prince Albert.

No one was injured in the blaze that took firefighters from Beauval and neighbouring Ile-a-la-Crosse to extinguish.

“Once we could actually go in, it didn’t appear that there was anybody in there,” said Sgt. Brian Neilmeyer with RCMP.

“We’re expecting a fire scene investigator to come and assess the damage and see if a cause of the fire can be established.”

The inspector should arrive on scene either Friday or Saturday.

The building was about 30 years old and the loss will have an impact on the community, Neilmeyer said.

“Communities this size —they depend on the arena they have, it’s more than the skating complex, it’s a social event complex as well.”
