The federal election is Monday, but many voters in the Prince Albert constituency chose to cast their ballot early.

Advanced polls saw 3,338 people vote over the holiday weekend, an almost 16 per cent increase compared to 2008, said Elections Canada.

The figures were even stronger in the north, where turnout soared 48 per cent in the Desnethé—Missinippi—Churchill River riding, where 1,686 people made their mark in advance of the May 2 vote.

Almost 45,000 people voted at advanced polls across Saskatchewan on Friday, Saturday and Monday, which represented an increase of over 18 per cent from two years ago.
