A close election race on a local First Nation.

The unofficial results are in from last week’s band election.

It appears Darrell McCallum has been re-elected chief of the Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation.

McCallum had only nine more votes than runner-up Harold Linklater — 1237 to 1228.

Former NDP cabinet minister Joan Beatty finished a distant third.

Elections were also held for 14 council seats.

In Sandy Bay, David Caribou and Harvey Nateweyes were elected.

Darrin Morin and Clarence Clarke will represent Southend.

For Pelican Narrows, all the incumbents were elected again … Wesley Custer, Arthur Dorion, Melville Linklater, Angela Merasty, Ovide Michel and Darwin Morin.

Peter Beatty and Bernice Sewap will represent Deschambault Lake.

Clayton Sewap wins the council seat in Amisk Lake.

Gertie Budd was re-elected to represent Sturgeon Landing.

George Michel won the council seat by one vote for Prince Albert.

The results are still unofficial. Due to the close election race, recountsare ongoing.
