Montana Netmaker remembered

Apr 15, 2011 | 7:04 AM

Today loved ones say goodbye to 14-year-old Montana Netmaker, the young woman who died this week after a hit-and-run incident in Prince Albert.

Netmaker was a student at Osborn School and was looking forward to her Grade 8 graduation.

“She was really pumped about it. She had her dress picked out and everything. She showed people her dress and she was really excited,” said Tishanna Garchinski, one of Netmakers closest friends.

They were excited to be going to the same high school next year, but this year’s Grade 8 graduation is a milestone Garchinski will have to experience without her friend, she said.

She said she still cries sometimes when she thinks about her friend, but she also has some fun memories to remember including a ski trip they went on with their school.

“Montana went down this really big hill and she just completely wiped out and we had a really good laugh about it and it was a really good memory to treasure because we were all hanging on that hill laughing.”

Besides having a great sense of humor Garchinski described Netmaker as being “a really amazing, beautiful girl and so outgoing.”

That kind of description was posted all over the multiple Facebook pages that have popped up in honor of Netmaker’s memory.

One post read “Such a tragedy to lose such a beautiful young lady … heaven will have a beautiful angel.”

Many Facebook posts show the reach Netmaker’s death had, as even those who didn’t know her are posting on the pages.

“(You) seemed like a real sweetheart I cried when i heard u got killed that’s so sad,” wrote one Facebook user.

“As A Mother And A Sister That Feel very Sad For The Family Of Montana And That My Prays Go Out To All” Wrote another.

Garchinski said the support on Facebook has been beautiful.

“It’s very thoughtful for Montana, if she can see it, because it’s all true about Montana because she’s just an amazing girl and everyone would want to friends with her.”

The funeral takes place in the Big River First Nation Band Hall on the Whitefish Reserve at 1 p.m.
