Suspect in stand-off and hit and run appears in court

The man involved with the Steele Bay lockdown has made his first appearance in provincial court today.

Leslie Brian Samoleski, 43, is facing several charges related to both the stand-off and the death of 14-year-old Montana Netmaker.

He's facing charges of impaired operation of a motor vehicle causing death, criminal negligence in the operation of a motor vehicle causing death, failing to stop at the scene of an accident and possessing a firearm in a manner dangerous to the public as well as several other charges related to firearms.

A bail hearing is scheduled for Apr. 20 and he'll be remanded at the Saskatoon Correctional Centre until then.

Crown prosecutor Maureen Longworth said the arrangement to have Samoleski remanded in Saskatoon was made between police and correctional officials because of his occupation.  Samoleski is an employee at the Prince Albert Correctional Centre.
