Police confirm remains are female

Police have confirmed that they responded to a report of a person down in the unit block of 17th Street East at 6:30 this morning.

When they arrived, officers found the body of an adult female.

According to police, the cause of death cannot be determined until an autopsy is performed.

Investigators from the Criminal Investigation Section and the Forensic Identification Unit, along with support personnel, have been investigating the scene for the better part of the day.

The Central Avenue viaduct as well as a few block of 17th St. were closed for the majority of the day and reopened between 6:30 and 7 p.m.

The remains were removed from the scene just before 3 p.m.

Police haven't said if the death is suspicious.
