Climbing the Rock – A Program for Teens to Learn About Violence
Assist teens in understanding aggression, abuse and violence.
Support teens to develop healthy, positive social skills.
Develop healthier beliefs about themselves and others.
Provide access to counseling services as well as access to recreational opportunities.
Provide tools for coping more effectively with anger.
Raise public awareness on the negative impact of violence on teens.
Outreach to communities to support families in need of this service.
The program uses a variety of weekly activities that are designed to improve self-esteem, help young people make positive life choices, avoid unhealthy situations, and reduce personal and environmental risk factors that may lead to further exposure to violence.
Weekly Schedule:
Week 1 – Introductions
Week 2 – Violence in Media & at Home
Week 3 – Abuse and Self-Esteem
Week 4 – Avoiding Unhealthy Situations
Week 5 – Gang Awareness & saying NO
Week 6 – Coping with Aggression
Week 7 – Communication Skills
Week 8 – Interpersonal Problem Solving
