$23M government funding going to Regina for upcoming road projects

It's the tale of two estimates as millions in joint federal and provincial money is being reallocated to help the City of Regina complete some upcoming road projects.

An announcement in Saskatoon Thursday shifted $23.2 million into three Regina initiatives. The money was left over after the construction of the massive Global Transportation Hub in the city's west. When it came in under budget, the city petitioned the Provincial-Territorial Base Fund to allow it to use the cash elsewhere.

One of those projects is the City Square plaza, the festival space currently under construction on 12th Avenue in the downtown, north of Victoria Park.

“When the tenders came in they were higher than we'd anticipated and City Council had actually approved some additional funds for the City Square project,” said Kelly Wyatt with the City of Regina. “We were instructed at the time to look for alternative funding sources so we didn't have to draw down the (General Fund) reserve and this funding will allow us to do that.”
