Hatchet Lake takes control of major northern Sask. hauling company

When it comes to hauling goods in Northern Saskatchewan, Rick Smith has a proven track record.

“We covered central and northern Saskatchewan for the last 15 years plus. In central and northern Saskatchewan, [we hauled goods to] 150 towns plus on a weekly basis,” he said.

Workers, businesses in shock over potash layoffs in Lanigan

A group of men joke as they sit around a table at the local union building in Lanigan, but the topic they're discussing is no laughing matter.

People in town are still grappling with the shocking news that 240 workers were laid off from the town's potash mine Tuesday morning.
