1928 – 2017
The family of Sophie Tenaschuk are saddened to announce her passing on November 11, 2017 at the Victoria Hospital. Sophie was born February 10, 1928 at Strong Pine, SK, being the sixth of 12 children. In 1948 she married William Tenaschuk. They settled on the Tenaschuk family farm at Samburg where they raised six children. Mom worked hard all her life. Her greatest enjoyment was sharing homemade food, pillows, quilts and crocheted items with her growing family. Left to cherish her memory are her loving family: her daughters, Melva Chestolowski, Ida (Ed) Chubak and Theresa (Keith) Hango; her sons, Garry (Cindy) Tenaschuk and Melvin (Brenda) Tenaschuk. Sophie is also survived by 18 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren; her sisters, Pauline Hryhor, Rose Bidulka, Mary Erdman and Emily (Joh) Vanderlaan; her brother, Louis (Liz) Zdrill; and her sisters-in-law, Ruth and Annie Zdrill. Sophie was predeceased by her parents, Philip and Maria; her husband, William; her daughter, Denise; her son-in-law, Bronald Chestolowski; her sister, Albina; her brothers, Peter, John, Frank and Stanley; her brothers-in-law, Joe Zychowka, Peter Hryhor, Morris Bidulka and Ken Erdman; and her sisters-in-law, Nellie and Alice Zdrill. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, November 16, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mark’s Parish, 581 9th Street East, Prince Albert, SK, with Father Jim Kaptein as Celebrant. Interment will take place at St. John’s Cemetery in Samburg. Contributions in Sophie’s memory can be made to Catholic Family Services, #300 – 1008 1st Avenue West, Prince Albert, SK, S6V 4Y4. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care of River Park Funeral Home, Don Moriarty, Funeral Director.
