1923 – 2017
It is with heavy hearts the family of Alice Lalonde (nee Chuback) advise she passed away at Birchview long term care home in Birch Hills Wednesday, September 13, 2017 at the blessed age of 94 years. Alice was born August 19, 1923 in Aberdeen, SK to Fred and Mary Chuback. She and her family lived near Vonda where she attended school and following graduation, Alice enrolled in the nursing program at Holy Family Hospital, graduating in 1946 with her RN diploma. Following a time nursing in Saskatoon and British Columbia her nursing career took her to Spiritwood where she nursed for many years, and was the Director of Nursing for 12 years. Shortly after moving to Spiritwood, she met and married Victor Lalonde (1949) where her two children Giles and Vicki were born and raised. Alice and Victor moved to Humboldt in the early seventies, followed by a move to Prince Albert in 1980, where they resided for many years. Alice was an avid writer and wrote a book, “Recollections of a Woman in White” recounting her life as a nurse. She also loved to write poetry and was a member of the Prince Albert Writers Guild for many years. She was a member of the Catholic Women’s League (CWL) in Spiritwood and volunteered at Mt. St. Joseph’s nursing home in Prince Albert. Her other hobbies included gardening, flowers, knitting and crocheting. Alice is survived by her son Giles (Susan) Lalonde and their children Orion, Jesse (Angela) and Lucas Lalonde, her daughter Vicki Bender (Merv) and their children Kyle (Linda Fabrick), and Justin (Shari Braun) and her daughter Avery. She is also survived by her younger sister Mary Posadowsky, her sister-in-law Nell Chuback and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her beloved husband Victor, her parents Fred and Mary Chuback, her sisters Jane Nowoselski, Jean Bilorsiuk, Pauline Procyshen and her brothers Steve, Bill, Peter, Tony, and Johnny Chuback. Alice’s funeral mass will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, September 18, 2017 from Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Spiritwood, with Father Peter Nnanga, MSP, officiating. Interment to follow at the Spiritwood Cemetery. Any memorial donations or gifts in memory of Alice are to be made to Birchview Home, C/O Prince Albert Parkland Health Region, 1521 6th Avenue West, Prince Albert, SK S6V 5K1.
