Hobbit/Jack Reacher

Jack Reacher

I will start by saying I can understand why the Premiere to this movie was pushed back. The movie begins with a shooter on a rooftop killing five people. Considering the recent gun violence in the states, the timing of the movie is poor, even if not intentional.

The pacing of Jack Reacher is a lot slower than I expected. At times it feels more like an episode of NCIS. Tom Cruise, a former military investigator, is asked by the defence attorney to investigate what appears to be an open and shut case. Surprise, surprise all is not as it seems.

Cruise is very good in this movie. Not only does he kick a lot of butt, but he has some very funny lines. He also does all his own stunts, so that alone is impressive. I don't think I'll be adding Jack Reacher to my DVD collection, but I have no regrets about watching it.

3/5

The Hobbit

I don't think it is impossible to sum up in 300 words or less how much I enjoyed this movie. Peter Jackson does an unreal job bringing The Hobbit to life. The cinematography alone is breathtaking.

What I liked the most about this movie is how it makes connections to The Lord of the Rings trilogy. LOR die-hards will see a lot of familiar characters. Speaking of characters there are a lot of interesting and cool characters in this movie. I would even wonder if the Henson crew was not consulted at some point.

The movie is a bit long (just about 3 hours),and it does start off a bit slow, but trust me when it is over you will be begging for more.
