This year we are excited to present performing artist Adelina Anthony.

She has over 20 years of performance experience and has garnered Best Actress nominations and awards. She has most recently written the short film screenplay, Get the Life, which was produced by a 2016 Film Independent Project Involve team and will screen during the L.A. Film Festival in June. She is a 2015 Lambda Literary Award Finalist in LGBT Drama for her play, The Beast of Times. This is her second nomination, as she was also a 2014 Lambda Literary Award Finalist in Drama for her first published work, Las Hociconas (both works published by Kórima Press)

In 2014 she was invited to participate in the Sundance Institute Screenwriters Intensive. The year prior, 2013, she was awarded the Sony Pictures Diversity Fellowship through Film Independent’s Project Involve program. (She participated in Project Involve in the Screenwriting Track.) Her first short film as writer-director, Forgiving Heart, has screened at film festivals and university campuses, premiering in 2013 at the Outfest Fusion LGBT People of Color Film Festival Gala.

The second short film she penned, You’re Dead to Me, was executive produced by Film Independent’s Project Involve and the National Minority Consortia for PBS; this short film won the 2014 Imagen Award and several film festival audience awards. Adelina is currently in post-production with her first feature film Bruising for Besos, which will world-premiere in 2016. Along with Marisa Becerra, Adelina is a managing member and co-founder of AdeRisa Productions, LLC.

Adelina’s comedy is known for its trademark salacious, brazen, and Spanglish humor. The themes in her work address colonization, feminisms, traumas, ancestral memorias, gender, health, race & ethnicity, immigration, sexuality, land & environment & issues generally affecting our two-spirit/ queer/ lesbian/ gay/ bisexual/ transgender / womyn of color / and people of color communities. Using comedy as a weapon of choice, she tackles taboo subjects with flair and delightful zings.
